 Welcome Remarks

The Town Chief, Madam Nohn Flomo, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed her appreciation to the association for initiating this developmental engagement.

 Self-Introduction

All participants introduced themselves, fostering unity and strengthening the spirit of togetherness.

Overview of the Association

Mr. Joe Dawoyea provided an overview of the association, highlighting its objectives, mission, and the importance of mobilizing citizens both at h

ome and abroad toward the development of Gban.

 Purpose of the Meeting

Miss. Zowah Nenyeah presented the purpose of the meeting, emphasizing the need to adequately prepare for the December fundraising program and ensure full citizen's participation.

  3. Key Discussions

Concerns on Arcelor Mittal Liberia (AML) Project

Mr. D. Maxson Gbiangbei (Youth Leader of Gban) informed the body that the ongoing Arcelor Mittal Liberia project costs $42,000 USD. He expressed dissatisfaction that the blueprint submitted by the Town was ignored by the county leadership, leading the citizens to halt the project in protest.

Mr. Othello Wuo Suah echoed similar concerns, noting that for six years, Gban has not benefitted from AML funds, unlike surrounding towns. He stressed that disunity and lack of representation have prevented the Town from accessing its rightful benefits. He further recalled that despite providing a goat to the county leadership in goodwill, Gban’s name was excluded from AML’s project listing.

The meeting resolved to draft and send a formal letter to the county leadership seeking clarification and accountability on the AML social corporate responsibility project.

Education and Land Concerns

Mr. Joe Daniel raised an alarm that portions of the school land are being encroached upon. He recommended immediate surveying of the school property to protect it.

Mr. Wuo highlighted that the school building is in poor condition and has been misused by citizens, calling for urgent rehabilitation efforts.

Community Unity and Leadership Issues

Mr. Edward N. Nenyeah noted that the lack of respect and cooperation among citizens has weakened Gban’s bargaining power. He welcomed the association’s role in uniting the people.

Bro. Lincoln Flomo questioned whether the current association is a continuation of the 2018 initiative, when citizens from Monrovia raised funds but failed to maintain accountability or communication. He cautioned that transparency and collective effort are key to success.

Mr. Morris Flomo reflected on the older generation’s achievements, recalling that Gban was the first to build a school under the leadership of Dr. Taryor. He expressed disappointment in the current generation’s lack of developmental drive.

 4. Fundraising Plans for December Program

The body unanimously agreed to organize a fundraiser under the theme “Giving Back to Gban”. Several fundraising activities were identified:

T-Shirt Sales

 Sports Tournament

Honoring Outstanding Citizens

 Birth Month Rally

Food Sale

Queen Contest

 General Social Club Leadership Election

Committees were set up to oversee each fundraising activity and ensure effective planning and implementation.

5. Resolutions

A formal letter will be written to the county leadership regarding the Arcelor Mittal Liberia project.

The school land will be surveyed and protected against encroachment.

The December fundraiser program will proceed with the agreed activities.

Committees will coordinate activities and ensure maximum citizen involvement.

The association will promote unity, transparency, and accountability to build community trust.

6. Closing

Mr. Othello S. Paye delivered the closing remarks, commending the citizens for their strong turnout and urging continued commitment.

The meeting ended with a closing prayer by Mr. Wuo Siryee.

 7. Conclusion

The preparation meeting in Gban Town was successful, with active participation from citizens and leaders. The discussions reflected genuine concerns about Gban’s marginalization in county projects, particularly with Arcelor Mittal Liberia, as well as issues affecting education and land ownership. The fundraiser program was strongly endorsed, with citizens expressing readiness to contribute their time, resources, and ideas to the theme “Giving Back to Gban.

Report from the meeting held in Gban Town, Nimba County

I am pleased to share with you an important report from our recent meeting held in Gban concerning the upcoming program under the theme: ''Giving Back to Gban." The meeting was well attended.

We 37 persons who attended the meeting, opening prayer was done by Nohn Gonunn, overview of Association was done by Amb. Joe Dawoyea and also welcome remark was done by the Town chief,  Madam Nohn Flomo.

We had self introduction followed by a "wholehearted" welcome by the Town. During the meeting, several concerns were raised by the Town's citizens.

The first concern was the issue of leadership in the Town. Many expressed frustration over the passed experience with the first organizations, regarding the mismanagement of money raised for development projects.

They expressed that the new Association, be based on the integrity and commitment of the team members and every participant.  If we are going to have an organization, accountability, fair play and transparency must be exhibited by the leaders as well as by everyone involved.

One of the appeals from the citizens was for our association to help in  restructuring the town's leadership.   They believe that with proper organization and accountability, lasting progress can be achieved.

In that light, they have asked that we return in August to begin working on this process with them.  The people of Gban have pledged their full support to the program organizing committee, in collaboration closely, to ensure that money raised during the upcoming event is used transparently and for the intended purposes.

The Town also highlighted many development needs including:  establishing a Clinic, renovating the school, providing clean drinking water for all' and investing in our agricultural sector.

We are also happy to report that the date of the Homecoming program has been agreed upon by the Town.  We extend our thanks to everyone who was present in the meeting.

     Best Regards,
